The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the 2022/2023 registration date for private candidates who want to redeem their WASSCE passes.

Candidates are to note that the 2022/2023 WASSCE private registration exercise will be held at all regional capitals across the country.

About 2022/2023 WAEC Private WASSCE

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is a regional body. The West African Examinations Council is responsible for conducting examinations in schools within its jurisdiction.

It also plays a regulatory role in matters relating to education, teacher training, and accreditation of educational programmes in member countries.

The council was established in 1952 by an agreement between Great Britain and representatives of the Member States of what was then called British West Africa; they are currently Ghana, Gambia, Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and Cape Verde.

 Currently, it is headquartered in Accra, Ghana. The Council is headed by a Chairman, assisted by a Vice-Chairman and a Secretary-General. It also has seven other officials and employees at its head office.

 The Council was established in accordance with Article 25 of its Constitution. Its primary objectives are:

(i) to organize and conduct common examinations at different levels of education;

(ii) to promote education by research and otherwise;

(iii) to bring about improvement in educational standards and methods of teaching;

(iv) to encourage co-operation between countries that have common educational systems; and,

(v) any other function or activity incidental thereto or conducive thereto.

How to Register for the 2022/2023 Private WASSCE

A Step-by-Step Guide: Registering for a private exam at the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is an excellent idea if you’re looking to gain skills in a certain subject or retake a course for another chance at a higher grade.

The 2022/2023 WASSCE private (NOV/DEC) registration is open to candidates who have sat for the national WASSCE and continuing students at the SHS.

Continuing students who would want to test or have a feel of actual WASSCE can register for the NOV/DEC before the actual exams.

Steps to Register for 2022/2023 Private WASSCE (NOV/DEC)

1. Candidates are required to scan their fingerprints at any WAEC-approved internet cafe.

2.Log on to  using the web preferably a chrome browser.

3. Select WASSCE for the private candidates’ option.


5. Fill in the required security information. E.g. Password, Security questions, etc.

6. Fill in your personal information and upload your picture.

7. Upload your signature online

8. Select your preferred region and centre for the examination

9. Choose the subjects on which you intend to write.

10. Print your voucher and send it to any of the accredited banks for the payment of the NOV/DEC registration fees.

11. Pay the required fees at the bank or via visa card online.

12. Use your PIN and Invoice Number to access your Index Number and Admission.

Can WASSCE Private Certificate (Nov/Dec) Replace My WASSCE School Certificate?

Yes, the WASSCE private certificate can be used to replace the actual WASSCE school certificate depending on the grades on it are better than that of the school’s own.

On the other hand, both can be used at the same time.

For instance, if grades in some subjects are better off than the grades on the actual WASSCE certificate.

In short, both certificates can be used when applying for admission into higher institutions.

Who  can write Private WASSCE (Nov/Dec)?

People who get D7, E8, and F9 in some subjects are eligible to write Nov/Dec. Furthermore, continuing students at the SHS who would like to test their knowledge can also write it as well.

In short, Nov/Dec can be written whilst still in SHS 1 or SHS 2.
