BREAKING: Boy, 17, drowns, 12 others escape death during swimming in abandoned stone quarry pit

When swimming in an abandoned stone quarry hole, a 17-year-old lad named Patrick Nyarko drowned, but 12 others escaped death.

The pit’s water level and tides suddenly increased, knocking the swimmers off their feet.

The hole in Gomoa Asarekrom, near Buduburam in the Central Region, had been abandoned for five years with no safeguards in place.

An eyewitness told Adom News that he spotted approximately 15 youngsters go to the place, and that despite multiple warnings about the risk, he was disregarded and they went forward regardless.

Stephen claimed he heard wails coming from that way shortly after, only to learn one of the youngsters had drowned.

Due to the delay, the victim was already dead when the rescue squad rescued him from the sea.

Meanwhile, Kweku Owusu, the deceased’s distraught father, claimed his son was preparing for his JHS exit examinations.
