BREAKING NEWS: GNAT Gives Exclusive Updates On Nationwide Teachers’ Strike over COLA
In reaction to the government’s inability to pay Cost of Living Allowances, the nation’s largest teacher union, GNAT, has offered an update on the upcoming nationwide strike of all teachers (COLA).
Thomas Musah, the general secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), said that the decision to strike still exists and that a strike may be called at any moment during an interview with Citi FM’s Umaru Sanda on June 30, 2022.
“We made reference to issues of engagement and all those things, but we have not yet met and looked at the situation. It has also taken too long in time.” Even though I will say that the government has released statements and other things, I can say that where we stand is where we still stand. “
As the deadline (30 June 2022) drew near, the general secretary of GNAT refrained from making a definitive statement regarding whether the strike would be called off. He did, however, promise to meet with other teachers’ unions and share the outcome with the public as soon as possible.
“We are meeting. The union’s leaders will meet and then decide—you know, we are four. Therefore, we need to meet and decide the next line of action,” he said.
