The Ghanaian government has agreed to pay 15% in cost-of-living increases in response to demand from public sector employees (COLA).

The government has agreed to begin paying on July 1, 2022. According to authorities from the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations (MELR), the Controller and Accountant Generals Department (CAGD) had already made an entry for salary payment for the month of July, resulting in the inability to pay the COLA in the effective month.

Bright Wireko Brobbey, Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, has stated that the 2022 COLA will be paid by the end of August and would cover July arrears.

According to the deputy minister, there is a guarantee that COLA would be paid in August 2022.

Concerning the aforementioned, the government would have a heavy burden because this money would be paid in addition to the salary of all public sector employees. In the meantime, other employees’ salary will be altered as a result of being promoted from a lower position to a higher one.
