Court sentences Medikal for showing off gun on social media

The Accra Circuit Court has sentenced rapper Samuel Adu Frimpong, also known as Medikal, to a punishment of 300 Penalty Units (GH3,600) for exhibiting rifles and ammunition on social media.

After changing his ‘not guilty’ plea to guilty, the ‘Omo Ada’ hitmaker was found guilty on his own plea.

Medikal had previously pleaded not guilty to the accusation before Emmanuel Essandoh of the Accra Circuit Court.

The court was scheduled to rule on a motion submitted by Medikal’s attorneys to have the police release the musician’s Ruger nine-millimeter handgun.

Medikal, however, informed the court on Monday morning [February 21, 2022] that he wished to modify his plea.

The accusations were read to him, and he entered a plea of guilty.

In absence of payment, he was condemned to 300 penalty units, or GHS 3,600 Cedis, or to serve a nine-month prison sentence.
