Good news drops for schools as Education Minister issues statement

According to the government, money have been granted to the National Food Buffer Stock Company and Senior High and TVET Schools around the country for feeding.

The government announced in a statement that GH126,000,000 had been granted to the National Food Buffer Stock Company for non-perishable food goods.

A total of GH72,106,603 has been allocated to Senior High and TVET Schools across the nation to cover perishable food products and recurrent expenses.

According to the statement, the funds were disbursed during the previous four weeks.

“As a result, the public may be assured of the Ministry’s commitment to guaranteeing the timely provision of enough and high-quality food products to all second-cycle institutions,” the statement said.

“The Ministry reiterates its commitment to ensuring the seamless and effective allocation of other resources in its efforts to develop and sustain quality education in Ghana.”

The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools has expressed dissatisfaction with the delays in delivering cash for food.

It further cautioned that several food suppliers had threatened to terminate shipments, while others had withheld food supply owing to nonpayment.

Because of the food issues, several principals have threatened to close their schools.
