Kuami Eugene, the 2020 VGMA Artist of the Year, has issued a warning to his impersonators.
The multi-award-winning actor has spoken out against look-alikes who imitate him for monetary gain.
It’s nice that young people aspire to be like him, according to the ‘Fire’ hitmaker, but it’s a problem when people take advantage of the adulation for financial gain.
Kuami Eugene admonished such individuals during an interview on YFM in Kumasi. Stealing other people’s work and intellectual property, according to Eugene, a visual artist, is prohibited.
This is in response to a recent viral video of two impersonators at a private event playing KiDi and Kuami Eugene’s songs. The two guys were outfitted to match the artiste’s brand image and had a great resemblance to the performances.
“It’s just beautiful to have almost every young boy growing up wanting to be like you. People want to sound like me, dress like me but the only problem is when people start going in for money and impersonate me. When someone goes out there to make money off your hard work or sweat, that’s when it’s illegal,” he stated.
