JUST IN: Manhyia orders shutdown of Oyerepa FM after Odike appearance

The Kumasi Traditional Council has requested that the Kumasi-based radio station Oyerepa FM suspend operations on Friday, August 26 till further notice.

Acting President of the Council Baffuor Amankwatia VI, who also serves as Bantamahene, made the announcement when a team from Oyerepa FM and TV went before the Traditional Council to apologize for statements made by Akwasi Addai Odike on their network against Manhyia.

Odike, who was a guest on Oyerepa FM’s political show, blasted Ashanti Region’s traditional chiefs for failing to crack down on illicit mining.

He accused the chiefs of galamsey since they pretend to be uncaring while water bodies and forests are devastated.

If the galamsey threat persists, the businessman-turned-politician has promised to hold a major protest against Manhyia.

The Traditional Council was outraged by this remark, thinking it was a kind of rebellion against the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

“You provided Odike the forum to utter all he said without hesitation,” Baffuor Amankwatia VI added. If you want us to accept your apology and demonstrate sorrow, tell your listeners you made a mistake and apologize.

“Again, if you want Manhyia to listen to you, you must shut down your radio station on Friday, August 26 until the outstanding problem is handled.” If you don’t, we won’t take it lightly the next time you come before us.”
