Krobo ‘dumsor’: Odumase residents charge phones in mortuary [Watch Video]

Due to the power outage in the region, several inhabitants of Odumase in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality are now charging their phones at the morgue.

According to Mr Amotey, the department’s chief, locals from far and wide go to the morgue every day to charge their phones.

He said that in a single day, he charges around 20 phones, with many more always in line.

He stated this during Thursday’s episode of The People’s Forum, a section on Adom FM’s morning broadcast, Dwaso Nsem.

Mr Amotey stated that as a result, he now shuts quite late at night in order to assist the residents.

The development follows the community-wide power outage caused by an alleged exchange of bullets between the military and some Nuaso residents.

This comes only days after a young activist, Edmund Aboagye, claimed that mortuary workers are urging families to come and get their loved ones’ bodies.

He stated that five families have gotten several calls from mortuary attendants requesting that their remains be removed since they are decaying at the facility.

The mortuary attendants, he claims, claim they cannot afford to fuel the generators that keep the facility functioning.

However, according to Mr Amotey, the billing is free of charge to the recipients.

It can, however, not be established if hospital management has sanctioned his activity or if it is being done on their blindside.
