Officer arrested for disguising as woman to write Law exams for his girlfriend

Ammaari Musa Semwogerere, a recently appointed magistrate, was detained and fired for dressing as a woman to take his girlfriend’s exams at the Law Development Centre (LDC) Lira in Uganda.

Semwogerere reportedly received a promotion from the Judicial Service Commission two weeks ago to Magistrate Grade One on probation, according to local media.

At the Law Development Centre (LDC) Lira Campus on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, Semwogerere, alias Mukisa Anthony, was busted while taking an exam for his fiancée, Irene Mutonyi, a Bar Course student.

The suspect was detained and charged with two counts of forgery and one act of impersonation after campus officials reported the incident to the police.

He appeared before the Lira Chief Magistrate on Friday, July 28, and was sent to jail until August 3, 2023.

Semwogerere’s crime was in violation of Section 351 of the Penal Code Act and Impersonation was in violation of Section 381 of the Penal Code Act, according to a statement by LDC director Frank Nigel Othembi.

The Judiciary said that Semwogerere’s fresh appointment had been terminated after the event.

According to a portion of the letter, “The Judiciary would like to inform the general public that Mr. Semwogerere Ammaari Musa, one of the newly recruited Magistrates I will not be employed into the Judiciary Service.”
