The detained soldier can be seen in the video enjoying hot tea and eating a croissant while dressed up in warm clothing. Several Ukrainians surround him, one of them is clutching a phone.

According to the post, the Ukrainian woman assisted the Russian soldier in making a video chat to his mother to reassure her that he is well.

During the video conversation, he just ate and drank tea while crying, and then gave his mother a flying kiss.

According to a translation, a guy off-camera says the soldiers “don’t know why they are here.” The man is overheard stating in Ukrainian, “These young lads, it’s not their fault.”

The video was described as heartbreaking by internet users, who praised the Ukrainians for showing compassion to the Russian troops.

“From the way he’s chugging down that tea and food, he looks like he hasn’t eaten in days,” one Twitter user commented. “This is devastating but yet giving you hope for mankind,” the commenter continued.
