Schools Finally Closed Down Indefinitely; Strong Statement Issued

This was revealed in a statement delivered on July 20, 2022.

In greater detail, the University’s management was forced to close its basic schools due to a strike by the Senior Staff Association of Universities in Ghana.

It should be noted that the Senior Staff Association of Ghanaian Universities refrained to organize a walkout after Organised Labour negotiated a 15 percent COLA agreement with the government.

The Association stated that the leadership of Organized Labour misled them by agreeing on a 20 percent COLA and nothing more. They also demonstrated that, notwithstanding the COLA, they had other unfair compensation concerns that they must pursue.

The latest development from KNUST, as stated in a letter signed on behalf of the Registrar by Mrs Margaret Dzisi, is that following the declaration of a strike by the Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana, management is writing on behalf of the Registrar to inform the University community and the general public that the KNUST Basic Schools will be closed effective July 21, 2022 until further notice.
