Taxi driver, 26, jailed for s.exually assaulting 5-year-old girl at Assin Fosu
A 5-year-old Kindergarten 1 girl was sexually abused by a Taxi Driver whom her parents had trusted to pick her up and drop her off at school every day in the Eastern Region’s Assin Fosu Municipality.
The Taxi driver was apprehended because the small girl was unable to walk effectively after the driver dropped her off at school. The small girl confided in her mother about what happened, which led to the arrest of Nelson Abotsi, who admitted to sexually abusing the kid.
Sergeant Matilda Osaah Buabeng, the prosecutor in the case, requested the maximum penalty be given on the offenders.
As a result, the court sentenced Abotsi to 9 months in prison and a Ghc2000 cedi fine to reimburse the small girl’s medical bills following the attack.
According to her, the mother of the small girl, she hired Abotsi to drive her daughter to and from school every day for about a month until March 1, 2022, when the criminal drove the victim to school as usual but she fell asleep in his car on the way home. It was unclear if this was his first time or if he had previously committed similar indecent acts on the little girl.
Abotsi then took advantage of the circumstance by parking his taxi cab by the wayside and inserting his forefingers to his delight into the survivor’s vagina before sending her home.
Many people who heard about the 9-month sentence believed it was insufficient and that the court should have imprisoned him for more than ten years to act as a deterrence to others.
