After the Black Stars exited the group rounds of the AFCON 2021, striker Jordan Ayew said that the team was not good enough.
Jordan was part of Ghana’s haphazard frontline, which scored just one goal in each of their first two games against Morocco and Gabon.
In their final encounter against Comoros, the 10-man Black Stars scored twice, but their defense conceded three more goals, sealing their doom.
Jordan Ayew, who has yet to score for Cameroon, stated after the game that the young squad’s group stage exit was a wake-up call and an event they must learn from.
GTV Sports quotes him as saying, “We weren’t good enough, we have a young squad, it’s a wake-up call for everyone, and if we don’t learn from this, I don’t know.”
This was the first time the Stars had exited an AFCON without a single victory, and the first time they had exited at the group stage since 2006.
